Brighton

Stanley Appleyard’s holiday images showing 1920s Brighton landmarks.   Images selected are those clearly identifiable as from Brighton or labelling from the  original album.

Following three images show bathers in front of a Brighton pier.

Bathers are the same in both images and therefore the same pier in both.  But is it the Palace or the West Pier?  I have spent many hours pondering that question.

Image shows unknown bathers in front of the pier.  Interesting to see the costumes and headwear of the  time.

Same bather on right and same pier presumably.  Is it the Palace pier?

And then there were three – but who were they?

Not a great photo at first glance.  Palace pier in the background  confirms  the Brighton location. Volk’s railway,  with train, runs along the side of the road. The car in the foreground LY7705 was one of two used by the family for this holiday.

Not strictly on topic but an exception can be made for Hove
