Stanley’s Photos

Interestingly the following appears to be taken at the same time and place showing a group of tennis players. Stanley Appleyard, back row second from left is clearly identified and Frank his elder brother is to his right.  But is that Doris Appleyard (aged 12) sitting next to Joshua (aged 21) in the front row?

Some other Austhorpe Hall pages:

Spookily came across the following page Austhorpe Leodis page This contains a post from Patricia Appleyard referring to cousin Brian Appleyard’s family tree. I am not  guilty.  But Appleyard family moved from Flockton Hall to Austhorpe hall sometime  between 1841 and 1851 (according to census data).

  1. Sometime after the marriage of Joshua and Annie Batty in 1923, Annie’s father Charles Batty, and presumably mother Sarah Ann Batty nee Lee, must have moved into Austhorpe Hall for their probate recods show ‘ BATTY Charles of Austhorpe Hall Whitkirk Leed died 17 April 1939 Probate Wakefield 30 May to Sarah Ann Batty widow’. Then ‘BATTY Sarah Ann of 28 Barrowby Road Whitkirk Leeds died 3 October 1940 at 4 Barrowby Road …..’ This rather indicates that the Appleyards departed Austhorpe Hall twixt April 1938 and October 1940.

    1. The 1939 census shows Joshua Appleyard and Annie living at 28 Barrowby Road. The Appleyards, therefore, must have departed Austhorpe Hall between April and September 1939. Richard, thank you for the comment.
